Birdsfoot Tour

Birdsfoot Delta Mississippi River Delta

Always wanted to visit the Mouth of the Mississippi River? On this trip we make it happen for you. This trip is on the bucket list for many river lovers. The Mouth of Mississippi River is beyond roads, making this boat trip the only way to see the Mississippi River emptying into the Gulf of Mexico.

The Mississippi River winds through small towns, big cities, and lots of countryside from Lake Itasca, Minnesota to Venice, Louisiana. Down in Louisiana, one needs a boat to experience the vastness of the river emptying into the sea.

A typical trip has us departing the Venice Marina (directions) at 9:00am before heading downstream. We cross bays and the active shipping channel before continuing to either the end of South, or Southwest Pass depending on the weather and your interests.

If the water levels allow, we can disembark at the southernmost point in Louisiana, a sandbar another mile past the South Pass Lighthouse.

On the way back, we typically return to port via the Pass a Loutre Wildlife Management Area, and the main trunk of the Mississippi river before arriving at the marina around 3:30-4:30pm.

Wildlife abounds in the active delta. River otter, raccoons, osprey, great blue heron, yellow-crowned night heron, and roseate spoonbills are some species that we have a chance of encountering along the way. Millions of birds migrate through the delta at the southern terminus of the Mississippi Flyway each year. Prolific numbers of waterfowl find refuge in the Delta National Wildlife Refuge, which is just off the route.

Our boats are limited to six guests so you will have the space to ask questions and get to know the area better. Variables in weather, tide, and river stage make each journey into the delta a unique and rewarding journey. We hope you join us to where the river meets sea.

Please note: This trip is into a wilderness area over the horizon from cell phone coverage. The restroom situation is natural, but there are opportunities at designated campgrounds. The delta has shifting sandbars and other hazards that may take time to navigate around. Please keep the rest of your day open so you can thoroughly enjoy the trip. If you have a larger group than 6, please reach out, we can scale as needed.
